Seema Shakti is a NYC-based Visual Artist/Curator, Educator, and Cultural Worker who was born in the Bronx and grew up in the Little Guyana neighborhood of Queens. She lives and works on occupied Canarsie/Munsee Lenape land.

As a South Asian and Indo-Caribbean artist, Seema explores identity, migration and ancestry through her mixed media work. She views her art practice as a nourishing ritual meditation that connects her to her ancestors, kundalini shakti, and the cosmos. Her work incorporates elements of magical realism like third eyes that serve as a portal that connects the women she depicts in her work to their ancestral truth and power.

Seema is the founder of Coolitude Arts Collective and artist member of the South Asian Womxn’s Creative Collective and Southeast Queens Artist Alliance. She has presented her work at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL), King Manor Museum, Flushing Town Hall, Square’s HQ,, and The School District of Philadelphia’s HQ. She was the 2021 recipient of the New York City Artist Corps grant.

Her curatorial work as an inaugural Visual Voices Curator (2023- 2025) at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) amplified local BIIPOC creatives in Queens and NYC. She most recently curated In Community With The Land (2024-25) and Ancestral Nourishment (2023-24), two group exhibitions that collectively featured the works of over thirty artists of diverse backgrounds from the five boroughs of New York City.

She holds 15+ years of experience as an educator within the youth development sector in the nonprofit world with experience in facilitation, curriculum development, program management & design.
