Seema Shakti is a Bronx-born and Queens-raised and -based Visual Artist, Curator, and Educator who grew up in Little Guyana, NYC and lives on occupied Lenape land.

As a South Asian and Indo-Caribbean artist, her Guyanese and Punjabi-Pakistani roots inform the themes and style of her work. She’s inspired by the power of the divine feminine and has been creating art since her childhood. Seema views her art practice as a nourishing ritual meditation and portal that deeply connects her to her ancestors, heritage, kundalini shakti, and the cosmos. Her work incorporates magical realism and sacred botanicals, depicting women of color who are unapologetically centered in their truth and wholeheartedly own their power. Seema’s primary artistic mediums are digital art and watercolors.

Her recent curatorial work as a Visual Voices Curator at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) amplified local BIIPOC creatives in Queens/NYC. In Community With The Land (2024-25) and Ancestral Nourishment (2023-24) were two group exhibitions she curated that collectively featured the works of over thirty artists of diverse backgrounds from the five boroughs of New York City.

As an educator, Seema has 15+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector within the youth development space with experience in facilitation, curriculum development, program design and management.

She is the founder of Coolitude Arts Collective and artist member of the South Asian Womxn’s Creative Collective and Southeast Queens Artist Alliance.
